On the eve of the celebration of Nauryz-meiram, the teachers of physical culture of the Kostanay Construction College held competitions in “Tokyz Umalak” among students living in a hostel.
“Tokyz Umalak” is one of the most ancient Kazakh board games, based on the number 9, which was considered sacred by the ancient Turks. In the scientific world, it was called “the algebra of nomads”, since in the course of the game the opponents have to use all four basic mathematical actions. This game was popular both in antiquity, when players, even without a game board, could simply dig holes for playing in the ground, and in our time, and gradually the number of its admirers is growing every year.
